Lord of the Rings Heli Tour, Queenstown
Travellers of Tolkien fandom rejoice! This heli-tour will take you high above Middle-earth, where you can fully immerse yourself in the incredible scenery used in the Lord of the Rings films. You'll begin your journey by flying towards the Misty Mountains, bound for your first stop - the Dimrill Dale - flanked on either side by majestic mountains. Onwards you'll travel to the western door of the great Gates of Khazad-dum (Moria) and Mirrormere, source of the River Silverlode. Continue across Lake Wakatipu (Nen Hithoel) to fly over Amon Hen, scene of the Breaking of the Fellowship, with excellent views of the forest where Lurtz fought his final battle against Aragorn, Boromir, Legolas and Gimli. See the site of the Ilithien camp where Frodo and Sam hid from the battle and first saw the Oliphants. Towards the River Bruinen, we see the Ford, scene of the desperate encounter between Arwen and the Black Riders. Homeward bound, we see glimpses of the River Anduin (location of the Gates of Argonath).
Prices are in New Zealand Dollars (NZD). The tour is available each day except Christmas day. Working hours: 7 days a week 08:00-17:00.
