Waitomo Glowworm Caves Small Group Guided Tour from Auckland
Enjoy a full-day tour in a small group to the world-famous Waitomo Glowworms Caves in the central North Island. Leaving Auckland at 8:00, journey into the heart of the North Island, travelling through the lush green farmland of the Waikato and King Country regions. Be entertained and informed by your driver guide’s commentary, who will point out highlights of the region, like Rangiriri, where a major battle was fought in 1863 between British forces and those loyal to the Maori King.
After arriving in the small town of Waitomo, you’ll take a 45-minute guided tour past stunning cave formations and learn how stalactites, stalagmites and other limestone structures were formed over 30 million years go in awesome caverns that used to be part of an ancient seabed. And you’ll take a boat ride through the Glowworms grotto, gliding silently along the underground river as you admire the luminescent glowworms overhead, like tiny stars in the night sky! You’ll have time to explore the visitor complex where you can enjoy the stunning views & learn more about the region before boarding your coach to return to Auckland. You’ll arrive back at 15:00. Wear comfortable walking shoes & take a warm jacket for the caves.
