The City of Gardens, Cromwell stands on the shores of Lake Dunstan just 66.5 km from Queenstown and 54 km from Wanaka in the region of Otago. This area is renowned for its orchards and abundance of fruit and grapes are grown. Wineries are almost everywhere. Otago is famous for its red wines, but the local white ones are very tasty. Not far from Cromwell is the 45th southern parallel. You can find the sign announcing this is on state highway 6 on the shores of Lake Dunstan.
